The Perseid Meteor Shower is known for producing streaking fireballs at a rate of up to 100 meteors per hour! This spectacle is best viewed about three nights before or after the “peak” — although any of the nights in the vicinity are fair game to be the “best.” In general, any given night near the peak ranges from “good” to “amazing,” so you really can’t go wrong as long as you’re looking up!

You’ll also be able to download the objects we view through the telescope straight to your smartphone!

This year the Perseids will take place during a new moon which means the darkest of skies and maximum meteor visibility all night long!

Cancellations and no-shows will be afforded a 50% credit towards any of our future Panamint Valley, CA or Sage Valley, NV Dark Sky Festivals or Meteor Shower Parties. You are also welcome to transfer/give away/sell your reservation if you cannot attend. If the Eastern Sierra Observatory has to cancel your visit for some crazy reason (due to weather for example), then you will be afforded a 100% credit towards a future observatory visit or event.
